Brooks Pepperfire Foods Inc. receives $130, 000 in Government of Canada funding for expansion project

Longueuil, Quebec, October 10, 2009 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced the awarding of $130,000 in funding, half of it in the form of a non-repayable contribution, to the firm Brooks Pepperfire Inc. under the Community Adjustment Fund of Canada’s Economic Action Plan to relocate to new facilities, acquire new production equipment, implement a new marketing strategy and create 17 new jobs in Rigaud. Brooks Pepperfire Foods Inc. is an SME that specializes in the manufacture of high-end hot chili pepper sauces. The firm is now looking to add a new line-up of spicy sauces made from local products, and move from artisanal production to small-scale industrial production. Its new business model will also allow it to better meet the specific needs of its market. “Expansion of this dynamic company will help it transition to a more industrial mode of manufacturing. This will put Brooks Pepperfire Foods Inc. in a better position to meet the growing demand for its distinctive products,” said Minister of State Lebel. “The Government of Canada’s contribution is supporting a food processing company in a community that has few of them and is affected by the current economic situation,” the Minister concluded. It is precisely to support projects like this that the Government of Canada established the Community Adjustment Fund, an initiative to which it has allocated a $1 billion budget, $212 million of it for Quebec. This initiative is part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, established to help workers, stimulate spending and construction, and support businesses and communities in this period of economic flux.
