If you’ve ever baked fresh homemade bread you’ll want to try this recipe right away. I’ve stolen it from a friend (okay, borrowed with his permission), and would love for you to try it.

The legend goes that this friend, one Jim Campbell, firefighter and now retired supplier of Red Savina powders and mashes, first created this bread for a chilihead dinner party known simply as a Hotluck. At such parties, folks bring their own spicy specialty to share. Jim Campbell brought this bread. It enjoys quite the following.

So why am I telling you about this bread? Well, Jim Campbell is a really nice guy and he runs this project called a Step up for Charity. I thought that what he does is so cool, we should tell you about it and if you like the project idea or even if you just like the bread, maybe you’ll throw a few coins Jim’s way for his charity.

What does Jim do? Well, he climbs stairs to raise money for charity. And he’s previously been the world record holder for the highest number of stairs climbed. Currently the record holder for the climb is a fellow named Scott Campbell (no relation) who climbs to raise funds for an AIDS charity in Africa. There’s another fellow named Bill Eske who climbs to raise funds for Leukemia and Lymphoma.

Jim’s story is very cool and he’s made the project into an almost annual thing. So, we’d love it if you’d encourage him or perhaps even create your own stair climbing competition to raise funds for a charity dear to your heart.

Kind of gives new meaning to the words “going for a walk”.
Jim Campbell

Greg and I’ve been planning on working with the recipe to convert it to regular bread and have, as yet, not done so. I would love it if you would have a try at making the conversion. The machine recipe is so good many of our friends and customers swear by it. Either way, If you try it, please share your photos.

Without further ado… The Bread;
